Ricordiamo Giorgio Gilibert, professore ordinario di Economia Politica all’Università di Trieste, 
scomparso prematuramente nel mese di aprile. Aveva alle spalle una lunga carriera accademica e molti contributi rilevanti sia alla teoria economica che alla storia della teoria economica. Il suo campo principale di interesse era la teoria classica e più specificamente la concezione del sistema economico circolare, in contrasto alla concezione “a senso unico” della teoria marginalista. Il Tableau économique e Produzione di merci a mezzo di merci naturalmente sono due testi a cui ha dedicato importanti lavori, ma anche il modello di von Neumann, e gli scritti (meno conosciuti) di un ampio filone di economisti tedeschi e russi (Leontief in un certo senso fa parte di questo gruppo). Su questi argomenti ha dato contributi di grande spessore e raffinatezza, sapendo unire sempre una sottile capacità di analisi a una consapevolezza della rilevanza e del significato storico delle questioni trattate. I suoi interessi di studio e ricerca erano molto vasti ed andavano ben al di là del campo ristretto dell’economia. Giorgio Gilibert lascia un grande vuoto e un grande rimpianto in tutti i suoi amici e colleghi.

We wish to remember Giorgio Gilibert, professor of economics at the university of Trieste, whose untimely death happened in the month of April. In his long academic career he gave many important contributions relevant to both economic theory and its history. His main field of interest was Classical theory, and more specifically the conception of a “circular” economic system, in contrast to the “one way avenue” of marginal theory. Quesnay’s Tableau économique and Sraffa’s Production of commodities by means of commodities were of course two texts to which he devoted important works, but also von Neumann’s model, and the lesser known writings of an ample stream of German and Russian economists (to this group in a sense belongs Leontief). On these topics his works were characterized by analytical subtlety and refined scholarship. He always conjugated very keen analyis with awareness of the historical relevance of the problems he was tackling. His scholarly interests were very wide and went well beyond the narrow economic field. Giorgio Gilibert leaves a great void and great sorrow in all his friends and colleagues.
